Lic. Jaime Higuera Ricoy

Born: July 25 1959

A 51 years old successful attorney specialized in the field of intellectual property.

He is a Suma Cum Laude L.L.B. graduate from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. As part of his higher education he earned a L.L.M. degree in Universidad La Salle in Mexico City.

In order to culminate his international law profile he also earned, in Northeastern University, the Executive’s Diploma in the Business Language Skills Program in 1998.

His experience was developed in the Trademark Department of Basham, Ringe and Correa, S.C. considered as one of the most important international law firms in Mexico where he worked for more than 20 years.

Among his duties, he managed legal matters related to trademarks and copyrights of Fortune companies doing business in Latin America such as Coca Cola, Exxon, Good Year, Kodak, Kellogg, Basf, IBM, Time Warner, Cartier, Allied Domecq, Pernod Ricard, Siemens, VW, Ford, GMC, Pfizer among others.

As an associate for Basham, he represented this international law firm before Mexican authorities for the establishment of guidelines and methods to enforce and construct rules related with industrial and intellectual property rights.

His knowledge in issues related with Industrial Property led him to design strategies for trademark protection of several Mexican corporations doing business in Mexico and in the United States. Jaime Higuera-Ricoy, who belongs to the Mexican Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (AMPPI) was also a member for the Board of Trustees for the AMPPI from 1998 to 2001.

Mr. Higuera-Ricoy was accepted to the Mexican Bar (Barra Mexicana Colegio de Abogados) in 1988, and his efforts were committed to the Intellectual Property Commission, considered among his colleagues, as a perfect place for his professional growth, specially at the time of his participation and representation of said Commission in several discussions and analysis of legal modifications and creation of new rules related with Patents, Trademarks and Copyrights.

One of his most valuable assets is his deep knowledge of the trademark and copyright legislation, including his leadership in working groups, within the scope of a law firm, to achieve goals based on a perfect legal advise to his clients in intellectual and industrial property matters, as well as his notorious ability to share his knowledge with his peers and law clerks who are now associates for important law firms.

The above is the result of a perfect balance of his legal practice and academic skills, since he has been a trademark law professor and lecturer for several institutions in Mexico, among them, Universidad Intercontinental, Universidad La Salle, Universidad Tecnologica de Mexico, Universidad del Mayab.

As part of his career in law, he was a partner for Obon, Zires & Higuera-Ricoy, S.C. Attorneys at Law, where he practically ran the Trademark Department combining his abilities with clients related with copyrights, including publishing companies, art galleries, magazines, artists and professional models. His entrepreneurial spirit drove him to be part of a new law firm, Aguirre, Gonzalez Benassini and Higuera, Legal Consultants, since 2001 to 2003.

Since 2003 he was incorporated to the lntellectual Property division at Law Department of Grupo BIMBO, one of the most important Mexican companies with global business where he managed Intellectual Property matters in Mexico and around the world. Recently June 2010, he left from Grupo BIMBO.
